Want a simple solution to get reluctant students to participate in class discussion? Here is a great solution that starts at the Dollar Tree. Use small, plastic traffic cones as rewards that acknowledge thoughtful and good comments. This is an easy reward system that fits into any classroom management system.
Start with a couple of the plastic traffic cones. If they have positive messages on them – great! If not, write your own with sharpie marker. Place a cone on the desk of students during class discussion – but just for those who contribute thoughtful answers. It may be a small recognition – but will recognize and encourage those who otherwise may be reluctant to participate. Everyone loves positive recognition…
